Rainy Days Here in Provo

Today is the exception to the above statement. It has been warm and sunny. The previous week has been full of rain and showers. The air has been chillly and cold with the water and rain that has come down. We’ve enjoyed it as opposed to most of the weather we experienced in California. My thought has been, “It is going to be cold this winter.” I’ve forgotten the true cold that comes with snow and winter since the winters in southern California are mostly still pretty warm especially when living in the Inland Empire of San Berdu and Redlands.

The highlights for this week are that Oscar and myself are loving school. I started seeing clients again this week and the university Comprehensive clinic. Also that we signed up with iProvo’s DVR (the like, but not quite Tivo service). It has been pretty cool to fast-forward and rewind shows and to record shows in the middle of the night so you can see them later. And it was only $2 more than what the service was costing previously for the iProvo box. We’ve been caughting up on season to of Veronic Mars. We also watched the season premiere episodes of Lost, The Nine and Dancing with the Stars recently. We been organizing the house so that it is starting to lose the feel of boxes everywhere (still a few that we need to get out of here. Soon!!!

The BYU Marriage and Family Therapy program has been pretty good. I’ve started getting involved in several research projects. 1) How cost-effective is family therapy as opposed to individual counseling for anxiety and ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder? 2) And some work with a Brazilian project with my friend Steve.

This coming month I have two trips. One, I am headed to the AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) in Austin, TX from Oct 18-22. I am going with a big group of BYU profs and students. We are presenting some research information (via posters). Tehy are just want is sounds like big posters that display the basic information found in research article that is being published or in the process to get published. Pretty exciting. BYU has about five or more posters in the conference, maybe more. That is good.

The next trip I have planned is to the Collaborative Healthcare Conference in Rhode Island. That will be the beginning of November when we go. I am helping a friend who is presenting on the cost-effectiveness of family based substance abuse treatments. We’ll only be gone a couple of days but I hope that it turns out well.

Funny thing that many probably already know is that Marlene also has a girls trip planned for the same weekend that the AAMFT conference is. She is going to Chicago with some friends from her old Orem ward. She went to St. Louis a few years back and they had a great time. I watched Oscar for that trip and that was the plan for this until we found out that the trips were overlapped. We have however formulated a plan and with the help of our wonderful parents, the kids will be watched and cared for while we are gone. Marlene’s mom will come and watch the kids during the weekdays and then my parents will watching them over the weekend. What a fabulous blessing. Thanks Moms and Dads for sacrificing and helping us out. We are a bit nervous about leaving them. This will be our first trip away from them for an extended period of time. And it isn’t even that we are going somewhere fun together. We are going to separate places. Hopefully, we’ll have a great time during the two trips. But next time we need to go to Figi or Hawaii if we are going to leave the kids somewhere.

Last of all, we have been trying to sell some of my old textbooks that I’ve held on to for months and years (thinking that I’d need all of them again sometime — I’m a bit of a pack rat). Well we both conceded to start selling them. We’ve sold about 20 books so far on Amazon and it has been pretty good.

Most played albums for this week.
1) The Killers - Sam’s Town (I love this one, Marlene isn’t quite sold on it yet)
2) Cars - Movie Soundtrack (Great music and artists on this one)
3) Peter Breinholt - all albums
4) Arcade Fire - Live concert from their website

My fantasy football team is beating JP right now but we’ll have to wait to see who triumphs and comes to top the league this week. We are both undefeated going into this game. Who will survive undefeated still.

BYU Cougars — Go, Cougars! They played a great game here in Provo this weekend. I love the MTN channel so that we get all the Mountain West Conference games on cable. Curtis Brown and John Beck and the whole team are playing great. Keep it up.

We are excited to see the Scoville family over Christmas in Delta. We are also looking forward to seeing the Schaefer’s for Thanksgiving if all works out (or soon if not then).

Bye.

It was great to leave your update. I am not really familiar with most of your music but at least Peter Breinholt rings a bell. We are looking forward to some time with Oscar and Lily. Love Mom

Thanks, Mom. We are really grateful for your help in watching the kids. They are looking forward to it too. Yeah, Peter B. is an old-time classic for me. My music seems like it stays about the same but I guess it does change with new music coming out. But that’s okay.
