Weekly Update: Oscar’s 4th Birthday, BYU Basketball

Hello, we are now just doing a short update about the last week.

Well we had two parties for Oscar’s 4th birthday. First, Oscar’s Grandma Scoville, Grandpa Scoville, and Grandma Schaefer came for a family party at Wendy’s and Chucky Cheese’s in Orem on Friday night of March 2nd (his actual birthday). We had a really fun time. Oscar and Lily kept running around enjoying this special time with their grandparents. Oscar also enjoyed opening his presents from us and the grandparents. We were glad that so many of his grandparents were able to make it to this 4th Birthday.

Then came the rambuncious kids for the awesome “Cars” party on Saturday morning of March 3rd. We had about 15 or 16 little two to four year old friends of Oscar and Lily here. He was so happy. When they first got here they were bouncing off of the walls. It was a good time. Marlene had things under good control and the party planned with cake and party bags for the children to take home from the party. Also games and fun were played and had by all. All the kids loved Oscar’s “Cars” Birthday Party. We have a picture of the cake (Marlene did an excellent job on the cake–It was cars theme with desert and a highway running through the middle and had Lightning McQueen on top of the road). I’ll be posting the pictures soon. We have them on throw-away camera (because we’ve hadn’t purchased our new Digital Rebel yet). We’ve been undecided for a little while. Oscar came away with a lot of new toys — more than he can handle for now.

Well school and life have been going pretty crazy for us. Marlene has become very involved in our neighborhood - she is the vice-chair in the neighborhood organization (Timp Neighborhood of Provo) and is the secretary in an organization to save historic Provo sites (Historic Provo Preservation Foundation). She has meeting to attend and take notes some times a couple nights per week but usually one. She loves it. She has such a great time and feels so much a part of the process. (And we know how she loves old buildings and architecture. This is a dream come true for her. She has also just been called to work in the cub scouts.

I have been busy with school and research. I’ve lately been doing work on a couple of papers that discuss the usefulness of family therapy in the treatment of individuals with anxiety disorders. I’ve had fun finding treatments for children and youth and then for adults as well. As of late, I’ve really began to understand the extend of my own anxiety and some of the ways that it inhibits me in what I want to accomplish on a daily basis. I’ve also been busy with scouts and young mens. We just got back from a Boy Scout camp. We combined with the Provo 4th Ward (but then our boy got sick the night before so he didn’t end up coming). However, it was still fun to go camping.

BYU Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams are doing well and are both pursuing the Mountain West Conference Championship.

Well have a good week and we loved having Grandma Schaefer stay for a good part of week. Oscar and Lily loved seeing most of their grandparents so much for Oscar’s party. More pictures will be coming soon.
