Omissions from the previous update: Photography Class, Camping out back, and our 6th Anniversary
Marlene has been taking a photography class with Missy Giles (Greg’s wife) and has been quite enjoying it. It is a class to help her learn more ways to use our SLR camera (Digital Rebel XT). She has had a good time with the class, however, she hasn’t been feeling too well so she has missed at least one class. The class is Tuesday night, the night I am out of town which makes it a little more challenging since she must find a baby-sitter to watch our kids. Overall she likes the class though.
Last week when I came home from Loa: Oscar asked me, “when are we going to go camping?” He has been asking for weeks actually so I said, “Let’s do it tonight. Let’s go set the tent up in the backyard and we can sleep outside tonight.” This made there day. They were so excited. They helped me get the tent up. Oscar and Lily both got ready for to sleep out (pj’s, books, and blankets). It was a blast. We even roasted Marshmellows on the stove before going to bed. Not the real campers experience but for their first time, it was a good start. They didn’t end up going to bed until about 11 pm because it was so light out and (I had to finish grading some tests for a class that I was a teaching assistant for during Spring Term). It was really a good thing. We read a few stories at about 10:30 when I finally got them outside and settled down. They really wanted to read both their stories. So we did. They fell asleep really quickly (their normal late bedtime is 9 pm). They slept pretty well. Oscar got up once and was having a night terror so it took him awhile and he moves around in his sleep a ton. All over the tent during the night. Then Lily slept like a baby throughout the night. She was the last to get up at 7:30am. I was surprised they didn’t get up at the crack of dawn but our tent is a dark blue and seemed to keep it dark inside which was very nice. The grass was fairly comfortable without any mattresses. Lastly, I had the inclination to talk to our neighbors about turning off the sprinklers (well, I thought it seems to late, I’ll just hope they turned it off). At about 1 or 2 am. The sprinklers came on and we were basically rained on from a close distance. The sides of the tent and my sleeping bag got wet but other than that it wasn’t too bad. But fun for the first night outside for the kids.
Ohhh, and Oscar now says he doesn’t want to camp out anymore, not because it wasn’t fun. Because he keeps talking about it, but because “Mommy was alone all night and I don’t want mommy to be sad and lonely at night. I don’t want to campout anymore.” He has been so concerned with Marlene lately not feeling too well and wanting to be her protector and big helper. It is really cute.
Last of all, we are planning our 6th anniversary. We are going on a nice get-a-way to Park City. I won a free night stay at the Best Western there during the UAMFT Conference in May when we went up. (My luck seems to have gotten better since I married Marlene. I seem to win prizes which is something I never remember doing when I was kid.) I’ve won a pair of tickets to two concerts from radio stations. I won this free night stay. I won recently $5 from McDonalds at our Stake Picnic. Just to name a few.
We are planning on going down to Delta for the 5th of July celebration. That is a change in our plans slightly. If you are there, hope to see you. Thanks for reading.
