Journal Update: 8/26/07
To start off with, I wanted to go through a few of things that have kept us busy the last few weeks.

First off, Marlene and I went to the musical, “The Music Man” at the Scera Outdoor Theatre with some friends, Aaron and Jenny. Sarah came by for the weekend and she took care of Oscar and Lily while we were at the play. We really appreciated it. We weren’t sure if the show was going to happen. It had been pouring rain. Well we left the house in the rain and drove to Scera’s Outdoor Theatre and it was sun shiny. The rain never came over but we thought it would. Funny how the weather works.
We had fun the next day with Sarah around. Oscar and Lily love playing with their aunts and uncles. Oscar went to his Stake Primary Activity at the Pioneer Museum on 500 West and 600 North in Provo. He really enjoyed it. Lily then went with me to Dixon Middle School to watch me play flag football with members of the ward. Lily put on some flags and played around near the field. We ate at Diego’s near downtown Provo this weekend. I have a lot of fond memories eating their Chicken Nachos Supreme when I first moved to Provo to begin college back in the Fall 1996.

Then the following Monday after the weekend when Sarah was in town we went to another in the summer concert series at the Scera Outdoor Theatre in Orem, “Michael Feinstein.” He performed some great piano, jazz standards. He was (somewhat) entertaining and reminded Marlene and I a bit of Michael Buble and other old standards crooners, like Frank Sinatra. The only problem according to Marlene, he didn’t sing songs that I was familiar with (Phil: for me, since I don’t remember song lyrics I wasn’t that let down. Although familiar songs are nice to have).

Then this last week has been quite interesting and busy. We started the weekend by going on a camping trip on Thursday night with Brandon and Dayna Cahoon and their little baby Kellon.

We went to the Redman Campsite right above the Solitude Ski Resort (up Big Cottonwood canyon). It was so much fun. We had a great campfire and enjoyed the time with them. They had some family friends that came up for the evening. I’m hearing that the movie is coming along nicely and hopefully the movie gets finished and submitted to the festivals that he would like. I also went repelling for the first time since before my mission. It was fun.

Then on this Friday night we went to the Michie Family Reunion (my mother’s family). We had a good time visiting with family and friends. Oscar and Lily were able to play with first and second cousins and really loved being there. Oscar’s new friend from the reunion is Ryan, my cousin Dave’s oldest son. He keeps saying that he wants to have a play date with him. We played ultimate frisbee and ate alot of food. Uncle Les is quite the active player in kid games. He made up a game called, Roller Tag. You have to roll around to tag the next person that would be it.
Then on Saturday, we went with Spencer and Jonene and kids to Seven Peaks Water Park. We had a great time. Spencer and I got the worst sunburns. He took some pictures but I think that I look so much worse today than I did yesterday (I’m waiting for them to show up on Flickr and then I’ll post them for a vote). Oscar and Lily loved playing with their cousins.

Last night we watched the movie, “World Trade Center.” Although it wasn’t necessarily a “feel good” show. I was impressed with the movies ability to allowed us as viewers into some portion of the September 11 tragedy. It was so helpful to get a better understanding of the actual twin towers falling down and what it would have been like to be in the building when they fell and how two police officers survived. A stat that was astounding to me was that only 20 people were saved from the wreckage of the twin towers falling.
