Parenting Expert
Tomorrow I will be going to a presentation given by Dr. Bornstein for faculty in the School of Family Life. I am pretty excited. He is also giving a lecture in the early evening at 5pm at the BYU Varsity Theater for the whole school and is open to the public. It is free and should be really good. He’ll be discussing “Positive Parenting and Positive Development in Children.”

Bornstein’s presentation to the School of Family Life faculty at Brigham Young University was excellent. He talked about the architecture of children’s minds. I thought it had relevance to the developmental nature of children and how we often view intelligence as an all encompassing single factor. Either you are smart or you’re not, when in fact, there seems to be truth to notion that we can be very smart and intelligent in one area but then we actually struggle in the other areas. So where one person is smart, they are often deficient in other areas of intelligence. I thought the meeting was well-worth the time spent, although I thought they’d be providing lunch but I was wrong. I had to run by the bookstore to buy a sandwich to make it through the day. I’d only had a pear and couple of cookies for the day thus far. I didn’t make it to the public presentation later that day. I would have but time was short and we wanted to take the kids out trick-or-treating and to the ward trunk-or-treat.
