Paul Rusesabagina: Manager of the Hotel Rwanda
I finally got a chance to view the forum given at BYU because of some broadcasting problems. Well regardless, I’ve seen it and it was pretty enlightening. The overall message was one of hope for the future and that his ability to tell what he went through might possibly be able to influence a new generation of leaders that when problems exist in the world it is our duty to act and help wherever possible.
I am always saddened to hear the story of Hotel Rwanda and the genocide that occurred therein. Over a million of his people were killed (this is in a country where there were only 7 million people). That provides a little context for the problems that they faced. 15% of the population was killed. I can’t imagine that here in the U.S. He asked us to think about 15% of the population being killed within a 3 month period. Devastating. I can’t imagine it. Hope that all is well.
The story of Hotel Rwanda does justice to this personal account that he gave. Much seemed familiar since I’d already seen the movie and he referenced it to help the audience know the context in which he was talking.
I am amazed at his willingness to do what is right.

I will hae to read that forum. I read the book Left to Tell a few months ago and was so amazed at the personal story of a woman that survived the genocide. I talked about it somewhere on my blog. Anyway if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. It is very powerful! Fun to talk to you guys tonight and see more pics of your cute little Henry. Congrats again!
