A few memories from our family to you.

I took this picture at the beginning of the BYU game. AT&T was booked. I couldn’t call or email anything.

Here is a picture of the field. Cougar Nations was disappointed about not being able to beat FSU.

We didn’t come in to compete. They plainly outplayed us. We were riding high on the Oklahoma win and we were flattened. I’m still a proud BYU fan but I would have been more so if we had won.

BYU’s top recruit that just signed with them a few days ago. I heard alot about this guy on the radio but didn’t know much more. Here is a highlight reel of his 2008 season. You can also find some on his 2007 season. I’m excited. He’s going to be a nice addition to the BYU QB tradition.

What the heck is BYU’s problem? Why can’t our football team cremate these teams in the mountain west that just aren’t very good. Yes, they say these teams played good against them. But they haven’t played this good against Utah or other teams. I am getting really scared about the BYU / Utah game. I think that Utah has more of the killer instinct that will be to BYU’s downfall. I’m not predicting a loss by BYU but I am saying I’m pretty worried.

Please BYU. Please start to annihalate the teams you are playing. Defense you need to get going and keep these crummy teams from getting into these games. Remember Washington. We don’t need a thriller every game. If you want to be considered as a national title contender you need to cream teams all year long by huge margins, especially when we are coming from the Mountain West conference. No offense to the MWC but this conference doesn’t have the reputation that SEC or Big 12 or Big 10 conferences have.

We need to come in like warriors and kill San Diego State University next week. Please.

This has been a great week. We loved Conference weekend. There were several talks that really struck me and inspired me. I loved the Priesthood session. I was able to attend with my father, a friend from the ward and a friend of his came along as well. I loved President Uchtdorf, President Eyring, and President Monson’s talks. I also enjoyed hearing Elder Bednar’s talk on Sunday (improving our prayers to be more meaningful and effective).

The kids and I took a walk around the neighborhood and took some pictures. Here are some photos we took at an old LDS meetinghouse. I’ve wanted to take pictures for awhile. It is on 500 West 200 North in Provo. It is now Discover Academy (a school for troubled youth — I think). Anyone else know?

Mom and Dad came up for Saturday afternoon and evening so that Dad could come to the session with me. It was nice. I enjoyed having him there. Maybe we’ll be lucky and I’ll get the privilege of having Dad and Oscar with me at the same time; however, I don’t think that will be likely since Oscar is only 5 years old.

We bought some bunk beds this weekend and we started to paint them. We’ll have to show some pictures. The person we bought them had painted them halfway from red to white. It looked funny so we decided to paint them all white. Which is taking a few layers of paint. I think maybe one more good paint job. I did another this morning but I think we need one more. It will be nice to have them up. I know Oscar and Lily are excited about having them up (hopefully Oscar doesn’t fall from the top bunk too much).

Other news from the week: we are planning our trip to Disneyland for April 25th to May 2nd. We are going with Marlene’s mom and it should be a great time. I hope that Rachel can get away and come with us. Also we are looking forward to the Scoville Family Reunion in Richfield. We should plan a day of fishing or hiking as family. I know Marlene doesn’t want us (guys) to be gone exclusively on the 4-wheelers and (the ladies) get to watch the kids.

I am almost done with classes here at the Y. My last semester. I am excited. I still have to finish these classes, my comps, my dissertation prospectus and defense and then hopefully officially graduate in April 2009.

I am thinking that we’ll be staying around here for the next year doing my internship. If things can be arranged to work for one of the companies I worked for last summer I think I’ll be staying here.

Henry has passed his 2 month checkup. He is growing and happy. Here are some nice little pictures of him. Oscar and Lily love him (to death) almost. Or least he needs lots of space when they are around smothering him with loves, kisses and hugs. Big H (Henry) is a whopping 12 pounds and 6.5 ounces and 23 inches long. He is a beast compared to our two other kids when they were 2 months old. I’ll have to find some pictures and put them up.

Oscar at around 2 months. He looks so skinny. Marlene will have to comment and tell us his weight and height as I can’t find it and can’t remember. He was 6 lbs 11 ounces when he was born and 19.5 inches long. Then at the two month check-up he was 8 lbs and 21 inches long. Big difference.

Lily seemed to be health and okay at this time, but she also was born 6 pounds 9 ounces. (Mar found from our baby book for her that she was 12 pounds 6 ounces and 22 inches long). Wow! Just about identical to Big H. We’re hoping the trend continues well after the 3 month that he continues to gain.

Looks like a Lily!!

The weight for both Oscar and Lily normalized and stabilized over time and now they seem to fit in with their peers, but their is so much pressure when they are young to make sure they are growing and developing in weight and height as they should.

And I haven’t even mentioned it but what about the NCAA Final Four games last Saturday. Total surprise by both teams that lost. I thought North Carolina and UCLA would win and play much better. I hope that Memphis plays well tonight.

**Note at 10pm (Memphis almost won in regulation. I thought they had it, but Kansas tied the game and won in overtime. Excellent game. Proof: That it’s not over until the fat lady sings (or in-other-words, until the buzzer sounds). Never give up. Persistence.

We’ve been enjoying Eli Stone, especially since Lost hasn’t been on the air for a few weeks. You can watch many of the episodes for Eli Stone at the ABC website that I linked above. You can also see all the episodes of Lost at the above link from all 4 seasons, thus far.

After BYU lost in the opening round of the NCAA tourney, I am a little disappointed in their ability to win in big games; they maintain consistent good play until the 2nd half of the last two most important games of the season. I hope the junior Cummard and Plaisted come back for their senior year. We’re only losing a couple of players. We could hopefully make it past the first round of the NCAA tournament.Well I am routing for North Carolina to win the NCAA tournament. I also like the play of Memphis and then UCLA. Oscar is a fan of UCLA (because Grandpa Schaefer went to school there). He is proud of his grandpa.

I am also looking forward to this years end of the NBA regular season (in particular the excellent competition that is happening in the Western Conference). It is going to be hard for all teams playing each other. No one team far exceeds another in play. I just hope the Utah Jazz just don’t play the San Antonio Spurs. I would prefer they play the New Orleans Hornets (we’ve won 3 games against them this year). I also wouldn’t mind playing the Rockets or the Warriors or even the Mavericks or maybe the Suns (just not San Antonio). We have a tough match up with them. And they are great.

I’m also pretty excited to watch the Boston Celtics dominate the Eastern Conference. I’d love to a Boston Celtics – Utah Jazz finals. I know that is asking a lot but I think that they are that good. They can beat any team when they are playing their A game, which has been pretty consistent this year. We just need homecourt advantage. We are next to unbeatable at home. Energy Solutions Arena.

I finally got a chance to view the forum given at BYU because of some broadcasting problems. Well regardless, I’ve seen it and it was pretty enlightening. The overall message was one of hope for the future and that his ability to tell what he went through might possibly be able to influence a new generation of leaders that when problems exist in the world it is our duty to act and help wherever possible.

I am always saddened to hear the story of Hotel Rwanda and the genocide that occurred therein. Over a million of his people were killed (this is in a country where there were only 7 million people). That provides a little context for the problems that they faced. 15% of the population was killed. I can’t imagine that here in the U.S. He asked us to think about 15% of the population being killed within a 3 month period. Devastating. I can’t imagine it. Hope that all is well.

The story of Hotel Rwanda does justice to this personal account that he gave. Much seemed familiar since I’d already seen the movie and he referenced it to help the audience know the context in which he was talking.

I am amazed at his willingness to do what is right.

We have a friend who has this photo in her living room in Lindon, Utah. We have liked it for a while now. I just found out who took the picture during the funeral of President Hinckley. His name is Boyd Ivey and apparently our friend in Lindon knows him. Anyway, here is a look at his website. You can order prints from the site, Boyd Ivey Photography.

Apparently this photo was taken after the last BYU game coached by Lavell Edwards when the stadium was being named after him. Prints are in expensive. Now head over and buy them now. He also has a nice photo of President Monson available to order as well.

I am pretty excited about today’s forum speaker. He was the incredible manager of the hotel that has come out now in the story of Hotel Rwanda. You can view it on byu.tv anytime. Just return today’s date and scroll to the time of 11 am. It should play for you.

I know that many have felt that we were jumping the gun, but Marlene has had many days of contractions and we’re still without a baby at home. Arghh. We are excited that Lily and Oscar are still very excited to have the baby come. We’ll continue to keep you posted. We’re now coming on 2 weeks before the due date (we’ve been 2 weeks early with both Oscar and Lily). Maybe he/she just wants to come when on time. Wow! What a newsflash. Both of the kids have been getting a little nervous, probably because we are about the upcoming change and what that will mean to them.

This week has been fun. We’ve been to two BYU Basketball games this week. Mar didn’t come to the first one. Lily yells out “Go BIU” of course meaning “Go BYU.” Oscar wants to wear his BYU cap to bed everynight. He loves it. He also liked Navy blue clothes. He wants to play BYU all the time (football, basketball, soccer). Oscar and Lily said tonight that they too wanted to BYU Cougar fans for the rest of their lives. Oscar also said “I like BYU more than I like the Wisconsin (meaning Green Bay Packers).” Oscar had attached to Brett Farve and the Packers and wanted them to win. We were able to watch two Saturday Playoff games a few weeks back and he loved the colors (yellow and green).
