2008 NFL Football Playoffs
What a year! My Detroit Lions start off with a great 6 and 2 start and then lose just about every game after to miss the playoffs again. We need some serious change in Detroit. At times they looked so good, but stink so bad overall. Great teams this year. Pittsburgh was good until they lost a few weeks ago to Jacksonville. New England has been excellent. They have beaten both Jacksonville and San Diego to be perfect 18 and 0. Keep it rolling and the Tom Brady machine will win the Superbowl. San Diego started poorly and came around and were superb up to the loss to New England. Even with some injuries they beat the Indianapolis Colts (The Reigning Superbowl Champions).
Seahawks played well last week but got destroyed by the Packers yesterday in the blizzard and snow. Poor performances: Chicago didn’t even make the playoffs the other Superbowl contender last year. Also the Green Bay Packers played great this year. Kudos to Brett Farve and his excellent year, especially after last years commentary questioning his ability to perform at a high level in this league. He is fun to watch and Oscar took a liking to them this year and Brett Farve and would root for them when we watched some of their games. Oscar has been really interested in football this year and liking teams. He is partial to BYU Football and I won’t deny him of that. Lily also loves saying “Go BYU! Go BYU!” She says that when watching any game with any team. It is cute.
What a playoffs set of games for the New York Giants. They beat the Packers in a close game.
Go Giants and New England. Prediction: As much as I’d love to see theĀ Giants knock off the Patriots from getting perfection (NY’s second opportunity to do this). They played each other in the last game of the regular season and put up a great fight. So it is definitely possible for the Patriots to get beat if they lose focus. They need to come up with all they have and not get conceited or think that it is in the bag, because the Giants have beat some good teams to get where they are. Eli Manning has had a great second half to this season.
February 3rd, 2008 – SuperBowl. I love football.

John Beck, an excellent football player, will start this week against Philadelphia. Miami is 0-9 and aren’t doing too well but a bonus is that John Beck is starting a lot sooner than he would have if they were doing well with a different QB.

One thing that I love is the Detroit Lions. I really do. Even the last 6 years of mediocrity and sloppy play. I still love the silver and blue. I love the history with Barry Sanders. I decided to post something about them. Here are few pictures that I’ve found across the internet that let you see their great colors and Barry in action. See my previous post on Barry Sanders to see some Youtube and Google Video clips of him breaking tackles and dazzling the defense with his moves.

Here is a site to learn more about him as person, father, husband, and of course as football player. He was great. He holds many records for the Lions and in the league. And he would have had more had he stayed in the game. I was devastated when he retired after just 10 years in the league. Or click the link below:

Barry Sanders: Greatest Running Back of All-Time
It has been a little while since I’ve posted any sports posts. So I have been thinking about Barry Sanders and his decision to leave the NFL. My story is that I learned he’d retired the day I returned from my mission in Brazil (actually the day I was leaving – on the plane from a Baptist who sat next to me). He had invited me to film with him in Brazil since I knew the language (that didn’t pan out), but I was devastated that my favorite running back of all time was retiring. I was sad on that trip home. I had looked forward throughout my mission to come back and watch him play. Well in my time since, I have seen some amazing footage on google video and youtube and sites like that. I wanted to make a post dedicated to him. I am still a Detroit Lions fan to this day and hope that they return to some semblance of glory. We’ll see how this season pans out. Barry has been the best draft pick they’ve ever had and they’ve had some high picks since they are annually a pretty bad team.
Here’s to you Barry.

His college days at Oklahoma State University. He had been a back up to Thurman Thomas for a couple of years before he had his chance to shine in the 1988 season.

Well that is enough for tonight. I’ll see what else I can find.
